I used to sob uncontrollably when I heard the hymn “It Is Well With My Soul”. There were other songs that did the same. I could not sing them; I could barely listen; the emotions took over. Now I know that my body was in a stagnant state of fight/flight/freeze from trauma. But when I heard these songs, I felt the nearness of God so strongly, that I felt safe enough to release some of that emotion. He is my Safest Place, my Peace, my Healer, my Father.
